A wire braiding machine for rubber hose is a specialized industrial piece of equipment designed to weave high-strength wire (usually steel or stainless steel) around a rubber tube. This process provides the hose with the structural integrity needed to handle high internal pressures, vacuum conditions, and external physical wear.

The machine operates on a "Maypole" principle. Spools of wire (carriers) move in a serpentine path around a central axis through which the rubber hose is being pulled.

While braiding machines weave wires in an over-under pattern, a wire stranding machine (also known as a wire spiraling machine) serves a different structural purpose. It wraps high-tensile steel wires in a continuous, parallel spiral around the rubber hose.

This construction is typically used for ultra-high-pressure hydraulic hoses where a standard braid might not provide sufficient strength.

Standard braided hoses can sometimes fail under "impulse" conditions—where pressure spikes rapidly and repeatedly. Because the wires in a stranded/spiral hose don't cross over one another, there are no "pinch points." This allows the hose to handle:

In the manufacturing of rubber hoses, a wire winding machine is often used interchangeably with "spiraling" machines, but technically refers to the process of laying high-tensile wire in a continuous, non-interlocking helical path.Unlike braiding, where wires "dance" over and under each other, winding involves laying the wire in a smooth, parallel fashion.

The machine consists of a rotating pay-off section and a central mandrel. As the rubber hose passes through the center, the machine spins at a high velocity to "wind" the wire reinforcement around it.

A Hose Wrap/Unwrap System is a critical part of the vulcanization (curing) process for industrial rubber hoses.
Unlike small automotive hoses that can be cured in molds, large-bore industrial hoses or long-length hydraulic hoses are often reinforced and shaped using a specialized fabric tape. The "Wrap" machine applies this pressure, and the "Unwrap" machine removes it after the hose has hardened.

Before the rubber is "cooked" (vulcanized), it is soft and "green." To ensure the layers of rubber and reinforcement (wire or textile) bond together perfectly, the hose must be tightly compressed.Once wrapped, the hose (often still on a steel mandrel) is placed into an Autoclave (a giant steam pressure cooker).
